22 July 2025, Chișinău – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held a meeting today with the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana-Silvia Țoiu, who is on her first visit to the Republic of Moldova since taking office.

“The presence of the Minister in Chișinău reconfirms the special bond and friendship between our countries. Romania is and remains our main strategic partner on the European path of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Mihai Popșoi.

The agenda covered topics of common interest such as economic development, energy security, infrastructure connectivity, and the deepening of sectoral cooperation. The active contribution of Romania in supporting key projects in areas such as energy, infrastructure, education, and investments was also highlighted.

“Romania is the most important trading partner and foreign investor in the Republic of Moldova, with over 1,600 Romanian companies active on our market. This economic partnership directly contributes to the modernization of essential sectors and to the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European market,” emphasized the Moldovan minister.

Minister Oana-Silvia Țoiu reaffirmed Romania’s firm commitment to the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union: “Romania and the Republic of Moldova are united by a common history and traditions, and above all by a common future in the European Union. Our partnership is based on trust, closeness, and common commitments,” the Romanian official stated.

Both ministers reiterated their commitment to the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, which provides a solid framework for deepening cooperation and supporting Moldova’s European path. Particular attention was given to cooperation in the energy sector, highlighting ongoing interconnection projects.

“We are making real progress in energy interconnections, such as the Isaccea–Vulcănești–Chișinău line — a vital project for the energy security of the Republic of Moldova. Romania will continue to support the acceleration of these initiatives, which bring us closer not only physically but also strategically,” declared the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“The political, technical, and financial support from Romania is essential at all stages of our country’s transformation. We rely on strengthening this partnership and on increasingly close cooperation for the benefit of the citizens of both states,” Mihai Popșoi added.

The two officials also discussed the regional security situation, reaffirming support for Ukraine and commitment to a durable and just peace. In this context, the possibility of organizing a new trilateral meeting between the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine at the beginning of August was discussed, as well as their joint contribution to Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts, including through the development of a regional economic and logistics corridor.

In conclusion, Minister Mihai Popșoi expressed gratitude to Romania for its constant support and reiterated the firm commitment of the Republic of Moldova to reforms, stability, and continuous rapprochement with the European Union.
