17 May 2019, Chișinău – We are grateful to the people from North Carolina, who have shown openness and willingness in 1999 in order to build bridges of understanding, friendship and collaboration with the Republic of Moldova. Thanks to this opening, today, after two decades of unique friendship, we can speak about a successful collaboration between people as well as between universities, schools, public institutions and other structures from the Republic of Moldova and North Carolina. Statement was made today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, at the reunion of the Republic of Moldova-North Carolina bilateral committee meeting, which is taking place in Chișinău.

According to the Minister Tudor Ulianovschi, the reunion of the committee in Chișinău represents a great opportunity to discuss the already achieved results in collaboration with North Carolina, as well as a possibility to have a conversation about new opportunities of cooperation and projects that are going to be implemented further. In this context, the head of Moldovan diplomacy has emphasized that, for the purpose of improving the bilateral partnership, besides the decision to sign the revised version of the Memorandum of Principles and Procedures between Republic of Moldova and North Carolina state, the authorities from Chișinău proposed to raise the level of representation of the Moldovan side in the joint bilateral commission, so that the office of the co-president from the Republic of Moldova is to be held by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and, on the basis of propositions received from different institutions, as well as from American partners, was made the decision to create the Consultative Committee of the partnership, along with the General/Executive Committee.

I want to reaffirm with full responsibility that the Republic of Moldova is ready to capitalize on the full potential of the cooperation with the state of North Carolina. The successful results of the activity of the Bilateral committee not only strengthen the strategic dialogue, but can serve as a platform for further partnerships in new areas of cooperation. We want to encourage the business community in North Carolina to invest in Moldova and to better discover our country as a tourist destination”, said the minister Tudor Ulianovschi.

In turn, the US ambassador in the Republic of Moldova, Dereck J. Hogan, has mentioned that the Moldovan and American citizens took a full advantage of this sustainable relation in different areas. ”We have invested so much in the Republic of Moldova because we believe in its potential. The relation between the Republic of Moldova and the United States of America is a bond that cannot be broken”, the American diplomat emphasized.

The Secretary of State of North Carolina, Elaine F. Marshall has underlined that, after the discussions held in the framework of this reunion, the Memorandum of Understanding will be extended for another 5 years,”the signing procedure being, in fact, a symbolic act, because our friendship has been proven over the years through concrete examples and deeds and can represent a model of cooperation for other nations and countries”. According to the American Secretary of State, the interactions between the people is the most important part of the Republic of Moldova-USA partnership, as they make it vibrant and sustainable.
