The participation of the Republic of Moldova in the UN peacekeeping operations

The UN peacekeeping operations aim at helping countries navigate the difficult path from conflict to peace, thus supporting the preservation of peace and international security.

The Republic of Moldova, as a Member State of the United Nations, also participates in certain UN operations by deploying Moldovan military personnel to security-unstable areas. Thus, starting in 2003, the Republic of Moldova has actively contributed to international missions under the auspices of the United Nations in: Côte d’Ivoire (2003–2017), Liberia (2004–2016), Sudan (2005–2011), South Sudan (2011–present), Georgia (2007–2009), the Central African Republic (2012–present), and Lebanon (2022–present).

In November 2021, the Moldovan Parliament adopted the decision mandating the deployment, for the first time,  of a contingent consisting of 32  military officers ofthe National Army  to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). UNIFIL is the first UN-mandated operation to which the Republic of Moldova has deployed a military contingent. Previously, the National Army participated in UN peacekeeping missions only through military observers and staff officers.
