20 July 2026, Chișinău – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with the President of the Republic of India, Droupadi Murmu, who is paying the first-ever official visit by an Indian Head of State to the Republic of Moldova, at the invitation of President Maia Sandu. It is the first visit by a President of the Republic of India to Moldova since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992.
During the meeting, the officials discussed strengthening Moldova–India relations and expanding cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, agriculture, education, healthcare, information technology, and energy. In this context, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi underlined that President Droupadi Murmu’s visit marks an important milestone in bilateral relations and opens a new chapter in the dialogue between the two countries.
“For the Republic of Moldova, India is an important partner. Our country is ready to seize the opportunities for cooperation for the benefit of citizens and the business communities of both countries,” said Mihai Popșoi.
On economic cooperation, the officials welcomed the organisation of the Republic of Moldova–India Business Forum in Chișinău, which brings together representatives of the business communities of both countries. The Indian delegation includes around 30 business representatives. The interlocutors expressed confidence that the forum will help strengthen business-to-business contacts, attract investment, and expand bilateral trade.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi and President Droupadi Murmu also highlighted the importance of strengthening the bilateral legal framework, holding inter-ministerial political consultations, and deepening cooperation and coordination within international organisations.
President Droupadi Murmu’s official visit marks a new chapter in relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of India and reflects the shared commitment to developing a results-oriented partnership based on concrete projects.
In recent years, Moldova–India relations have gained positive momentum. In October 2024, bilateral political consultations resumed in New Delhi after a 21-year hiatus. In December 2024, the Republic of Moldova inaugurated its Embassy in New Delhi, an important step towards deepening political dialogue and promoting Moldova’s economic interests on the Indian market.
