2026 Brings Moldova Closer to the European Union: Roaming at Domestic Rates in the EU

Published on: Thu, 26/02/2026 - 15:01

1 January 2026, at Chișinău - The new year begins with a clear signal: Moldova is increasingly connected to the European space, and the benefits of integration are directly felt in citizens’ daily lives. Starting 1 January, the Republic of Moldova participates in the European Union’s roaming zone at domestic market rates (“roam like at home”).

The decision, adopted by the Council of the European Union on 25 July 2025, allows Moldovan citizens traveling in EU member states, as well as EU citizens in Moldova, to make calls, send messages, and use mobile data without additional charges, under the same conditions as in their home country.

The agreement also guarantees the same quality and speed of mobile services as on the national market, as well as free access to emergency services, regardless of the country in which users are located.

For the Republic of Moldova, this decision represents a further step in the gradual economic integration into the EU internal market, an objective outlined in the Association Agreement. These current benefits complement the 2024 agreement, which had already significantly reduced roaming charges for citizens and businesses.
