17 May 2019, Chișinău – The bilateral partnership between Republic of Moldova and North Carolina represents an eloquent example of mutually beneficial cooperation, edified over 20 years, and preserved through the multitude of projects implemented in the defence, social and educational domains. This conclusion was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Tudor Ulianovschi and the North Carolina Secretary of State, Elaine F. Marshall, in the framework of today’s meeting at MFAEI.

Tudor Ulianovschi and Elaine F. Marshall discussed the current state of the partnership relations, the eficiency of the implemented projects or those currently in the realization phase with the support of North Carolina in areas like education, defence, environment, etc., concluding that the history of success of this cooperation creates all the premises for the renewal of the Memorandum of Principles and Procedures between the Republic of Moldova and North Carolina, which will facilitate the extension and consolidation of the bilateral partnership in the future.

The Minister Tudor Ulianovschi has emphasized that the Moldovan authorities are interested in the consolidation of the partnership with North Carolina, because a range of important projects for our country were implemented due to the technical, logistical and financial support of the partners from the American state. “I am delighted to note that our partnership with North Carolina can be considered a role model of partnership between an US state and another country. The partnership is consistent with the strategic dialogue between USA and the Republic of Moldova, and we are determined to strengthen and extend the bilateral cooperation in new fields – information and communication technology, universities-industry partnerships as well as economic cooperation, etc.”, mentioned the head of the Moldovan diplomacy.

Elaine F. Marshall has, in turn, reconfirmed the willingness of North Carolina’s authorities to extend the bilateral cooperation with the Republic of Moldova, including through the diversification of the cooperation domains, underlining that the renewal of the Memorandum of Principles and Procedures will provide new opportunities for this objective. “We want and can help Republic of Moldova with more important projects in different areas of their national concern, which has been demonstrated over the 20 years of cooperation. I am convinced that in the future our partnership will remain as productive as it was up to now”, mentioned the North Carolina Secretary of State.

The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and North Carolina state, USA, was signed on 22nd of April 1999.
