Ambassador Victor Haruţa participates in the works of the General Assembly of IRENA
11th of January 2019, Abu Dhabi – The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an efficient platform for the transition to the renewable energy in these crucial moments in order to save our planet. The declaration was delivered by the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the United Arab Emirates, Victor Haruța, in the framework of the IRENA General Assembly, which takes place in Abu Dhabi, in the period between 11th and 13th of January.

During the meetings with the IRENA Secretariat officials, Ambassador Victor Haruța mentioned that, according to the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, in the renewable energy field concrete measures are undertaken to develop this area, including by tackling the normative frame towards the production and utilisation of the renewable energy. At the same time, the head of the diplomatic mission thanked the IRENA Secretariat team for the productive cooperation with the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, in particular for the two events that have been organised in Chișinău in 2018, with the aim to elaborate an exhaustive country report – the „Renewables Readiness Assessment”.

In his inaugural speech at the General Assembly, the Director General of IRENA , Adnan Z. Amin, mentioned that the Government of the Republic of Moldova has managed to accomplish the assumed engagements on the enhancement of the utilisation of energy generated from renewable sources, as well to ensure the successful implementation of the National Energy Strategy.

On the basis of the analysis elaborated by IRENA, the extension of the usage of the renewable energy needs to be accelerated 6 times in order to achieve the Paris Agreement goals. According to the report issued by the United Nations Panel for Climate Change presented in October 2018, the deadline for undertaking the irreversible decisions in order to avoid critical consequences is 12 years.

The delegation of the Republic of Moldova participates at the works of the IX-th session of the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The event is attended by high-ranking officials from 160 countries, having the goal to expand the usage of the renewable energy with the aim to support the sustainable development objectives and to avoid the global climate change.
