12 June, Ottawa - Diaspora represents a consolidation factor to the relationship of the Republic of Moldova with Canada in all areas, a promoter of our country’s image and interests. This statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, during his meetings with the representatives of communities of citizens of the Republic of Moldova that have moved to live in Canada.

During his meetings with the representatives of the Moldovan communities from the Quebec and Ontario provinces, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi appreciated the dedication and engagement of our co-nationals that are living on the whole territory of Canada in promoting the national identity, preserving the tight relationship with the home country and promoting of a favorable image of the Republic of Moldova. “The numerous cultural-artistic, educational and sport events organized by the Diaspora from Canada, reconfirm its added value towards the promotion efforts of the national values and confirmation of the common of values between the Republic of Moldova and Canada,” has mentioned the Head of the Moldovan diplomacy.

In this context, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi has mentioned the efficient cooperation among many Diaspora communities, which are present on the Canadian territory, including their initiatives, by highlighting the creation of the National Council of Diaspora from Canada, the drafting of a calendar of events of the respective communities, the establishment of a horizontal consultation network between the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Ottawa and the associations’ members. “I believe that your experience must be discussed during the ‘Diaspora Days’ in the Republic of Moldova, which this year will take place on 17-19 August, in Chisinau, under the aegis of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, and communicated to our co-nationals from other countries as an unification template of Diaspora’s potential to achieve some goals with an impact over the Diaspora’s members, as well as to the origin country”, has said the top Moldovan diplomat.

“Moldovans from Canada make the Diaspora voice more powerful through an intensive activity of promoting the country’s image, conducted within Diaspora’s associations, as well as through the active involvement in Diaspora’s projects contained in the governmental programs for specific grants,” has mentioned the Minister Ulianovschi.

In this regard, the community’s representatives that were present at the meetings have shared their experiences in participating to programs of the Government of the Republic of Moldova “Diaspora Engagement Hub,” “Professional Return of Diaspora,” etc. So, on behalf of Diaspora from Canada, three projects that envisage social assistance, technology transferring and cultural area have passed the national selection, and are waiting now to be executed during the present year.

During the meetings in Montreal and Ottawa, the interlocutors have raised a series of problems faced by our co-nationals from the abroad regarding the development of their businesses in the Republic of Moldova, mentioning the existence of some bureaucratic barriers, including the importance to adapt of an advanced entrepreneurship culture.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, is on a working visit to Canada from 10th to 13th of June 2018.
