Canada supports the efforts of the Pro-European Government in Chisinau in strengthening the democratic institutions and ensuring an unbreakable course of reforms
13th of June, Ottawa - Regardless of multiple challenges to sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, to which it was exposed 27 years along, the Republic of Moldova has succeeded to resist the pressures and to continue its course of democratic development. This conclusion belongs to the members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development (FAAE), House of Commons, Parliament of Canada, made afterwards the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, who is on a working visit to Canada, from 10th to 13th of June 2018.

During his discussions with Canadian parliamentarians, Minister Ulianovschi has talked about the situation in the Republic of Moldova, the reforms promoted by the Government, the progresses in implementing the commitments assumed in the Association Agreement with EU.

“These provocations have a regional nature mostly, and their fact dictates the need to consolidate the efforts of the states from the region to respond more efficiently to threats at which they are exposed,” has mentioned the head of the Moldovan diplomacy. In this context, Minister Ulianovschi, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, has conveyed an appreciation message to Ottawa authorities for the firm and consequent support of Canada in solving the Transdnestrian conflict and preservation of the territorial integrity of our country.

During their interventions based on the information presented by Minister Tudor Ulianovschi, the Committee’s members have appreciated the commitment of the Republic of Moldova to keep the course of democratic and economic reforms, welcoming the progress achieved in the alignment process to the Western norms and standards.

Moreover, the Canadian MPs have appreciated the signing of the Agreement on the mutual promotion and protection of investments, including the Joint Declaration regarding progressive and inclusive trade and investment, underlining the Canadian openness to support the Pro-European Government in Chisinau in strengthening the democratic institutions in the Republic of Moldova and ensuring an unbreakable course of reforms.
