The Secretary General of the Council of Europe reiterated the support of the Organization in the implementation of assistance projects for the Republic of Moldova
18 May, Elsinore (Denmark) – The Council of Europe (CoE) will offer the Republic of Moldova all necessary support in the implementation of assistance projects. The statement was made today by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, during a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi.

The officials exchanged views on the cooperation of the Republic of Moldova with the Council of Europe, particularly, on the implementation level of assistance projects included in the CoE Action Plan for the RM 2017-2020, as well as the projects of the CoE – EU Partnership for Good Governance 2015-2018 for Eastern Partnership countries. Among the achievements, the draft Code of Audiovisual Media Services was mentioned, for which the CoE legal expertise was required.

Thorbjørn Jagland highlighted the particular attention to the reform of the judiciary, fight against corruption and media freedom, ensuring the Republic of Moldova’s authorities of the full support of the Organization. As for the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, the confidence building measures on the both banks of river Nistru were welcomed and the rendered attention to the respect for human rights in the region, as well as to solutions for the operation of Latin script schools from the transnistrian region.

Tudor Ulianovschi and Thorbjørn Jagland also tackled the challenges of the Organization, including the budgetary, reiterating the statutory commitment of each Member State to honor its obligations.
