National Strategy for non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction discussed at the MFA EI

May 3rd, Chișinău – State Secretary Tatiana Molcean chaired the final meeting of the working group for the development of the National Strategy for non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and CBRN risk mitigation and the Action Plan for implementing the Strategy.

The meeting hosted by the MFA EI aimed to finalize the draft of the Strategy, followed by the expertise provided by the on-Site Technical Assistance to the EU CBRN Centers of Excellence, whose technical expert participated in the discussions.

In her speech the State Secretary appreciated the efforts of the authorities in developing the draft Strategy, by mentioning: „Although the Republic of Moldova has never produced, purchased or held weapons of mass destruction, major risks from the considerable stockpiles of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear substances/materials left over from past history remain imminent. In this regard, our country reiterates its firm commitment to continue efforts to prevent and counter the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, to strengthen national capacities to prepare and respond to emergency and crisis situations with CBRN impact”.

The CBRN Strategy and the Action Plan will be finalized in May this year, after which it will be submitted to the Government for approval.
