Foreign Minister Andrei Galbur attended Moldova Open Day event in Strasbourg
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur attended today, 4 December 2017, the inauguration of Moldova Open Day event on the Council of Europe platform in Strasbourg.

During the meeting which was also attended by the Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland and delegations of the Member States, were evaluated first outcomes of the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2017-2020, officially launched in Chisinau, on 30 May 2017.

The participants held an exchange of views on justice reform, fighting corruption, human rights, confidence-building measures between both banks of Nistru River and democratic governance.

In his speech, Minister Andrei Galbur talked about the necessity of prioritizing the assistance programs for our country and adapting them to the real needs. He also underlined the importance of maintaining the alignment of mutual cooperation with the Republic of Moldova – European Union Association Agenda. In particular, the head of Moldovan diplomacy emphasized the importance of implementing recently launched projects to ensure media freedom, teachers training and fighting corruption.

In turn, Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland reiterated his support for the Republic of Moldova and the need to further support the country's development. The current projects are aimed at complementing efforts to reform the justice sector, fighting corruption, strengthening media freedom and confidence-building measures between both banks of Nistru River, etc. In the context, Norway's support for the Action Plan amounted to 3.4 million euros was announced.

Note: The Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2017-2020 was adopted by Ministers' Deputies on 1 February 2017 and aims to assist reforms implementation in priority areas: fighting corruption and money-laundering, increasing effectiveness, accountability and transparency of the judiciary, fighting ill-treatment and impunity, strengthening media freedom and confidence-building measures between both banks of Nistru River.
