On 7 November 2007, Mr. Andrei Stratan, Deputy Prime-Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration met with Mr. Jean-Jacques Bovay, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Delegation for Ukraine, Belarus and Republic of Moldova. Mr. Paul Keen, Head of Sector Cooperation, Europe and Americas, Movement cooperation and coordination, also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting the parties discussed issues related to the 30th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies with the theme “Together for Humanity” which is to take place on 26 to 30 November 2007 and during which humanitarian aspects and consequences of such great challenges as environment and climate change, migration, violence and public health will be addressed.
The Head of the Moldovan diplomacy highly appreciated the contribution of the International Committee of the Red Cross in supporting the Red Cross Society in the Republic of Moldova and ensuring coordination of actions for providing humanitarian aid and spreading among different categories of people information on the ideals of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, as well as knowledge of international humanitarian laws.
At the closure of the meeting the Deputy Prime-Minister, Mr. Andrei Stratan, and the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross Regional Delegation, Mr. Jean-Jacques Bovay, expressed the need of developing the Red Cross Society’s programmes in the Republic of Moldova and manifested availability to be actively involved in obtaining effective results at the ICRC International Conference to be held in November.
