Today, the 7th of July, 2008, took place the meeting of the official delegacies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, leaded by the Ministers Andrei Stratan and Lazar Comanescu. The meeting was preceded by a tete-a-tete meeting of the chiefs of both diplomacies.
The main subjects of the discussions related to basic aspects of the bilateral collaboration and the European theme, including through the prism of regional cooperation.
Greeting his Romanian counterpart at Chisinau, Mr. Andrei Stratan affirmed that the visit constitutes an additional prove to the step of strengthen the bilateral dialog in multiple areas between the two countries, the parties expressing their availableness to approach openly and friendly the difficult problems and to find with conjured efforts the common point for the benefits of both states. The Minister remarked especially the dynamic development of the commercial-economic bilateral relationships, fact that denotes a mutual general interest of consolidation of the Moldovan-Romanian cooperation.
A separate chapter of the discussions has been the subject of European integration. Mr. Andrei Stratan pointed out that Moldova hopes that, by taking into account the positive evolutions, the European Union will conclude the thought part and will propose to our country an advanced legal ground of bilateral relations from which would result clearly the adhesion perspective.
In this context, Republic of Moldova is pronounced in favor for an individual treatment towards each state, candidate for European Union and does not consider opportune the common approach towards the states, according the same criterions. Thanking Romania for the support given in the process of integration in the European Union of Republic of Moldova, the Moldavian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his hope that the neighbor country will promote continuously the pro European approaches of our country, inclusive upon the negotiation of a new qualitative document of the relationships with the European Union. He appreciated in eulogistic terms the rhythms of development of commercial-economic cooperation between the two countries, concluding that the relations between Republic of Moldova and Romania could become a model of the interstate relationships. Referring to the regional dimension of cooperation, including taking over from Republic of Moldova of the charged Presidency of the Central-European Initiative by Romania, Mr. Andrei Stratan declared to be in favor for implementation of long-term projects, which will overcome the period of rotation presidencies in regional institutions.
Mr. Lazar Comanescu expressed his satisfaction regarding his visit to Chisinau, specifying that he is being here as a representative of a country which is a member of European Union for a year and half, in a country-friend which not only tends, but which will become a member of the communitarian space. The Minister affirmed that the Republic of Moldova may count in the future as well, on the total support of Romania in its approaches towards European integration exclusively as an equal partner which will have, in the long run, the same statute in the European Union.
According the statements of Mr. Lazar Comanescu, Romania will make its efforts regarding the thought period of EU vis-à-vis a new legal ground of relationships between RM and the communitarian space to finish at the end of the French Presidency, underlying the fact that the European Neighbor Policy shall be based on a fundamental principle, thus – the specific of every candidate state. The Romanian Minister appreciated the pragmatic and concrete way by which our country broaches the realities and he has shared the opinions of his Moldavian counterpart regarding the significance of the dynamic of commercial-economic exchanges that draws near one billion dollars annually. Lazar Comanescu has underlined also the importance of a strong preparation for the reunion of the mixed Moldovan-Romanian Commission that attends to meet in autumn of this year.
