During this meeting, the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister informed the Finnish Ambassador about the course of economic reforms in our country and latest developments of the internal situation.
At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration had an exchange of views on the implementation of Moldova-EU Action Plan, stressing the importance of the intensification of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and European Union at the last stage of the action plan realisation.
The event was attended by a series of Head of Diplomatic Missions accredited to the UN Office in Geneva, and most particular representatives of EU member states, Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, GUAM, CIS as long as other key states from the world.
During the meeting the parties discussed issues related to the 30th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies with the theme “Together for Humanity” which is to take place on 26 to 30 November 2007 and during which humanitarian aspects and consequences of such great challenges as environment and climate change, migration, violence and public health will be addressed.
One of the subjects discussed while exchanging opinions was the achievements of the Government of the Republic of Moldova in the field of migration, the initiative of the mobility partnership and circular migration, as well as the preparations for the 94-th session of the IOM Council to be held on 27—30 November this year, in Geneva.
On 8 November 2007, the Republic of Moldova was elected as a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) during the elections held in the UN General Assembly. Moldova has become a member of the ECOSOC, one of the most important UN bodies, for the first time since it had joined the UN in 1992. This election is a result of the efforts undertaken during the last three years by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and European Integration, achieved with the involvement of all diplomatic missions and in particular, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations in New York.
During the meeting the parties mentioned good relations and the high level of cooperation between the two states and discussed the assistance programs supported by Poland in the Republic of Moldova. They also examined the opportunities of cooperation and reciprocal support of the initiatives within international organizations.
During the meeting, the chief of Moldovan diplomacy has informed the OSCE representative on the current situation in the process of settlement of the transdniestrian conflict which has to be achieved through negotiations in the "5+2" format. In his turn, Mr. Rohan expressed the OSCE’s Parliamentary Assembly standpoint for the peaceful solution of the conflict based on the respect of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, and conferring a special status to the transdniestrian region within the Republic of Moldova.
The agenda of this meeting foresees subjects of common interest of the bilateral Moldova — EU cooperation, among them the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, the internal evolutions from Moldova, the cooperation with the EU BAM, etc.
During the planned meetings, Mr. Ostalep have met Mrs. Marianne Mikko, Co-Chair of the Cooperation Parliamentary Committee Delegation RM — EU, Member of the European Parliament. Important subjects regarding the relations of the Republic of Moldova with the European Union, particularly those related to the necessity to continue steadily the strategic dialogue have been discussed. The Deputy Minister Ostalep has reiterated the importance to start the discussions and consequently the negotiations on a new legal document which would offer to the Republic of Moldova new mechanisms for consolidation of the internal reforms in view of acceding to the EU four freedoms.
During this conference important subjects as for the European Union, as well for partner states which are part of the European Neighbourhood Policy will be debated, attaching a particular attention on the ensurance of the security and stability in the immediate European Union neighbourhood, based on the principles of common values, scuh as democracy and the respect of human rights.
Today, November 22, in Brussels took place the meeting of the Troika COEST EU-Moldova. The Moldovan delegation was headed by Mr. Valeriu Ostalep, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
During the respective meeting subjects related to the current dialog RM — EU, including the last evolutions regarding the settlement of the transnistrian issue were discussed. Both sides agreed that important progress, at the political, as well at the experts level were registered.
The Conference debated subjects regarding the community and the difference between the Southern and Eastern dimensions of the ENP, effective use of the parliamentarian dialog in the implementation of the ENP initiatives, the experience offered by the Baltic States to the Eastern neighbors of the EU in the promotion of reforms, joint involvement of the Baltic and Northern States in the implementation of the ENP.
The International Conference „Moldova in Europe — Europe in Moldova” organised with the support of the Ministry of Foreign affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) and the Institute for Public Policy from the Republic of Moldova will take place on the 27 of November 2007.
The purpose of this Conference is to offer the possibility for the Moldovan and European politicians, as well for the specialists in the field to reflect on the perspective of the Republic of Moldova in the European context.
In the opened speech of the Conference, Mr. Andrei Stratan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, has appreciated the signification of organizing the conference at such level in Chisinau, stressing the willingness of the Moldovan authorities to have the firm determination to advance the existing contractual level to a progressive one, which would allow the Republic of Moldova to accede gradually to the European Family. In this context, it has been stressed that the active efforts undertaken will allow the gradual transformation of the Republic of Moldova into a European modern state with a functioning market economy was expressed.
Today’s Conference and its generics subscribe perfectly in the current context of our relations with the European Union, the identification of the adequate framework of cooperation with the EU represents a preoccupation of the Moldova authorities, which have the firm determination to advance the existing contractual level to a progressive one, which would allow the Republic of Moldova to accede gradually to the European Family.
Thus, according to the provisions on the entry into force of these agreements, starting with 1st of January 2008, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova will have the facilitated capacity to travel on the territory of the European Union. Moreover, separate categories of the persons will beneficiate from special facilities, such as the urgent procedure of visa obtaining, free or reduced costs, as well the reducing of the number of necessary documents for visa procedures.
On 30th of November 2007 in Chisinau will take place the Moldovan-Czech consultations on Justice and Home Affairs aspects of the European Integration Policy, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Moldova.
Despite its achievements during more then 30 years of activity, OSCE faces today difficulties generated by the process of institutional adjustment launched in order to respond to new challenges and objectives. One of the hardest challenges in the address of the security of our countries is unsolved conflicts within ex-soviet states.
With reference to the recent statements by the Russian minister of foreign affairs in German newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” concerning the alleged fulfillment by the Russian Federation of Istanbul commitments in the context of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova specifies that through adoption in Istanbul in 1999 of the Final Act of Adapted CFE Treaty and of the Final Declaration of OSCE Summit, the Russian Federation committed itself to withdraw conventional armed forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova by the end of 2001 and to withdraw completely its military presence from the territory of Moldova by the end of 2002
Within the process of establishing and launching, in February 2008, of the activity of the Regional Cooperation Council, which will take over the responsibilities and competencies of the Stability Pact for the South Eastern Europe, the last phase of the positions for the RCC Secretariat, headquartered in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) have been announced
