General Information
The department of Consular Affairs includes two directorates:
- 1. The directorate of Law and Consular relations
- 2. The directorate of visas, passports and Section of public relations
The directorate of Law and Consular relations is responsible for the consolidation of national and international legislation in the consular field and development of bilateral and multilateral consular relations with other states. The directorate of Law and Consular relations consists of: (1) Section of legislation and legal analysis and (2) Section of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The directorate of visas, passports and Section of public relations has the competence to provide practical consular assistance to Moldovan and foreign citizens. The directorate consists of: (1) Section of visas and passports and (2) Section of public relations.
The department is headed by a Director, who is appointed or dismissed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The Department also has a Deputy-director. The total number of employees of the Department of Consular Affairs is 22. Due to the complexity of consular service, experts in the civil, family, citizenship, migration, asylum, international adoptions, notary and vital records field are working within the department.
In order to increase the level of transparency, the annual reports of activity of the Department are usually placed on the web pages of the MFAEI and diplomatic missions and consular posts of the Republic of Moldova, except for the information being considered confidential, state secret or which cannot be divulged due to other reasons mentioned by the law.
