The process of issuance of the Romanian visas to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova is under permanent monitoring of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFA EI).
During this year the Moldovan authorities regularly approached this issue with the leadership of Romania on all levels.
MFAEI draw the attention on the fact that the unique situation which shows the absence of a clear mechanism of visa issuance by the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau, raises bewilderment and concern.
Moreover, on the 26 June 2007, Mr. Andrei Stratan, Deputy Prim-Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration addressed to his Romanian counterpart, Mr. Adrian Cioroianu, a letter which contained a detailed signals on the violation admitted by the Consular Section of the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau of some relevant articles of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Romania on the mutual travel of citizens.
At the same time, in a number of occasions the officials of the MFAEI underline that possess information on the possible involvement of the Romanian diplomats in the fraudulent schemes of visa issuance. MFAIE emphasizes that Romania is not the only EU member state the issues visas in Chisinau and recalls the Romanian authorities to establish a functional, transparent and efficient mechanism of visa issuance for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
Seizing this opportunity, we mention that during the summer period the MFAEI received a number of complains from the Moldovan citizens about the inadequate behavior of the representatives of the Romanian Border police. Namely, issues that clearly outruns the functional competencies of a border police and which could be qualified as intentions to create artificial problems for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova who transit the Romanian territory.
