The 6th meeting of the Republic of Moldova - European Union Cooperation Sub-committee on “Energy, Transport and Telecommunications, Science and Technology and Education” started its works yesterday, on the 25th of June in Brussels.
During the first working day, the experts representing the European Commission and the Republic of Moldova have discussed the reforms and perspectives for moldo-communitarian cooperation in the field of information society, audiovisual and environment protection.
Regarding information society, the European partners have appreciated the progresses attained by our country, in particular the importance of the entry into force of the new law on electronic communications complying with the community acquis.
There have also been pointed the successes achieved in the electronic services sphere, highly appreciated by the colleagues from certain EU member states. In this respect, there has been solicited the support of the Commission for the implementation of certain components of this program, especially the involvement of information technologies in the sphere of culture and economy.
As to the audiovisual, the Moldovan party has presented the recent evolutions in the national legislation in this sphere, and the latest tendencies in the regulatory framework adjustment to the EU standards and requirements. Special attention on behalf of the European Commission experts has been paid to the implementation of the regulations on minors’ protection from broadcasts with violent, antisocial or immoral contents.
In the field of moldo-communitarian collaboration the European party informed about the launch of a new community program, “Media Mundus”, designed for the stimulation of the cinema sector development, presenting the invitation for Moldova to participate in this program in future.
In the environment domain, the European experts have welcomed the efforts undertaken by the Republic of Moldova in the adjustment of the legal framework to the community requirements and progresses that have been attained by the Republic of Moldova in this respect, mentioning as well the openness of the European Commission to offer support in approving the new acts elaborated by the national authorities in this field.
There was also reiterated the necessity of prioritizing the national calendar of legislation approximation, given the size and complexity of the community acquis in this field.
There was underlined the recommendation to continue the dialogue with and the implication of the civil society and of the private sector in elaborating and implementing the environment policies, pointing out the relevance of fulfilling the provisions of the Arhus Convention.
Discussions on the other domains will continue on the 26th and 27th of June 2008.
